Customer Spotlight – O-Cedar
Since the early 1900s, the Channell Chemical Company has been selling waxes and wood polishes. Then sold door to door, cedar leaf oil was one of the main ingredients in “O-Cedar Polish”. With a constant focus on innovation, their mission has always been to take the “work” out of housework. It’s almost impossible to resist singing its signature tagline – “O-Cedar Makes Your Life Easier®”
The product line has grown and diversified over the years and is now a leading international manufacturer of a myriad of cleaning and laundry care products. Don Hansen, O-Cedar’s procurement manager for packaging, is responsible for sourcing the various products’ packaging. He works closely with the packaging engineer to ensure the packaging meets or exceeds expectations of all.
“Packaging is an important component of our product presentation. We look for optimal solutions for our preprint packages”, says Don. As a result, L&M Corrugated Container was selected for the packaging of the EasyWring Spin Mop and Bucket System.
“We worked with our account executive, Stephen Hilbrich, on the specifications for the new product. We toured the plant in Pleasant Prairie and had confidence that they could do the job. It’s been a good match for this product line”.
L&M enjoys working with customers like O-Cedar who are focused on product innovations that may require new packaging solutions. “That’s an aspect of my job that I really enjoy”, says Stephen. “Designing a package that surpasses the customer’s expectations…no hand-wringing required!”
Meet O-Cedar’s Account Executive
Stephen Hilbrich, an L&M Account Executive, joined the company 2.5 years ago. Originally from Elgin, IL, Stephen earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Winona State University.
He describes himself as a competitive person who discovered a passion for sales through four summers spent selling educational books. “I was one of 3,000 college students who moved to various parts of the country. We worked 80+ hours a week doing straight cold calls,” says Stephen. That sales experience translated into skills that he has found useful in his role at L&M. “I have learned the importance of some intangibles like controlling the controllable, the importance of a positive mental attitude and the value of being service-minded”.
Stephen enjoys helping customers find solutions to their packaging challenges. He especially appreciates the growth of L&M the past few years. “It’s encouraging to be a part of a company that constantly looks to improve every facet of the business”, says Stephen.
